Role explanation

  • Villager: All villagers play on the Village team. They do not know the magic word. They do not know each other.
  • Seer: The Seer plays on the village team. They know the magic word. They do not know each other. If the magic word is guessed and the werewolves guess one of the seers, the village team loses.
  • Werewolf: Werewolves play on the werewolf team. They know the magic word. They also know each other. If the magic word is not guessed and the villagers guess one of the werewolves, the werewolf team loses.
  • Beholder: The Beholder plays on the village team. They do not know the magic word. They know the seer and they know each other. If the magic word is guessed and the werewolves guess one of the beholders, the village team still wins.
  • Minion: The Minion plays on the werewolf team. They do not know the magic word. They know the werewolves and each other. If the magic word is not guessed and the villagers guess one of the minions, the villagers win.
  • Mason: Masons play on the village team. They are the same as villagers except that they know each other.
  • Fortune Teller: The Fortune Teller plays on the village team. They know the first few letters of each word in the magic word. They do not know each other. If the magic word is guessed and the werewolves guess one of the fortune tellers, the werewolf team wins.
  • Apprentice: The Apprentice plays on the village team. If the mayor is a Seer or Fortune Teller, the Apprentice takes over the mayor's role for the rest of the game. In that case, the Apprentice knows the mayor's role. If the mayor is any other role, the apprentice plays the rest of the game as Villager and does not learn the mayor's role.
  • Thing (that goes bump in the night): Before the game starts, the Thing can bump one of its neighbors, letting them know they are the thing. After that, they play the rest of the game as Villager.
  • Doppelgänger: Before the game starts, the Doppelgänger selects a player, learning that player's role. They then take over that player's role for the rest of the game, winning or losing with that role.
  • Jester: The Jester plays on his own team. Their goal is to get voted for by the villagers. They do not know the magic word. This means that for them to win, the word needs to not be guessed, but they must look like a werewolf to get voted for. If the Jester wins, all other players lose.
  • Village Elder: The elder plays on the village team. They know the magic word. They are known by everyone. They can act as a source of trust.
  • Mutant: The mutant begins the game playing in the village team. If the word is not guessed, they vote as a normal villager and win and lose with the village team. If the word is guessed, they mutate into a werewolf and win and lose with the werewolf team. They do not know the magic word. This means that the main objective of the mutant is to find a werewolf or seer and make sure they are voted for, later on.
  • Whisperer: The whisperer plays on the village team. They know the magic word, but can only ask one question. If they ask more than one question, they lose (the village team might still win without them). If their question is the correct word or results in a "So Close.", they also lose. This means that they should wait for a good moment to ask their one question to help out their team as much as possible.
